The use of face mask is mandatory:

  In air, sea, bus or tram transport, as well as in public and private means of transport, if the vehicle occupants do not live together in the same household.

 In health centres it is mandatory that patients, family members and visitors wear hygienic or surgical mask during their stay. If said persons do not wear a face mask or if it cannot be guaranteed that the face mask they wear is hygienic or surgical, they will get one at the entrance of the health centre.

 In the case of practising individual sport exercise outdoors, it shall exclusively be used while exercising and if the minimum interpersonal safety distance of two metres between people can be ensured.

All persons over six years old are required to wear a face mask in the following cases:

 In the public thoroughfare, open spaces and any closed space for public use or open to the public, even if the minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 metres can be ensured.

 In any closed space for public use or open to the public, even if the minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 metres can be ensured.

 The use of face masks is only excluded when taking food or beverages in establishments, restaurants, catering services, including bars and cafeterias.

 The use of face mask is only excluded in natural spaces or outdoor areas outside towns, if the inflow of people allows to keep the minimum interpersonal distancing of 1.5 metres.

On beaches and in swimming pools, the use of face masks is only excluded while bathing, while staying in a certain space without moving, and if the minimum interpersonal safety distance of 1.5 metres between people from different social bubbles can be ensured. In any case, it will be compulsory to wear a face mask when accessing, moving around and walking around these spaces and facilities.

 The correct use of face masks is mandatory and it shall completely cover mouth and nose at all times. It shall be properly adjusted to nose and chin to prevent the release of respiratory secretions into the surrounding area.

In addition, we recommend the following use of a mask:

 In open or closed private spaces where people from different social bubbles meet.

Hygienic face mask, preferably reusable: If your trip is related to a temporary or permanent job, please note that it is compulsory to wear a face mask in all work environments.

 Smoking, the use of tobacco inhalation devices, water pipes, pipes, shisha or similar devices is not allowed in the public thoroughfare and open spaces, if the interpersonal safety distance of 2 metres cannot be ensured. Exclusively while smoking and as long as the minimum interpersonal safety distance of two metres between people can be ensured. Notwithstanding the above, this exemption is not applicable while walking on public thoroughfare.

The capital of Tenerife enters the new normal ready to receive visitors eager to explore a different capital city that combines nature, culture, cuisine, beaches and shopping. The regulations stipulate that you must keep a distance of 1.5 metres between yourself and other people in the public thoroughfare, outdoor areas and in any closed space.

 In hospitality establishments, restaurants and terraces, bars and beach restaurants: 

An interpersonal safety distance of 1.5 metres must be kept between tables or table groups, at the bar, between clients or groups. Indoors and outdoors, the maximum capacity per table or table groups is 10 people. The table or table groups to be used for this purpose shall be big enough for the number of people allowing them to keep the interpersonal safety distance. Clients may not sit down at a table until the waiter asks them to do so and after cleaning and disinfecting it. The closing time for these establishments is 1:00 am at the latest and they cannot admit new clients after 12:00 pm.

The obligation to wear a face mask is only excluded when consuming food and beverages in catering and service establishments like hotels, restaurants, bars and cafeterias.

In shops — except establishments that deal in food and beverages, basic necessities, pharmaceutical products and medical or healthcare services, among others — may not exceed seventy-five percent of their normal regulatory capacity.

All accommodation establishments must determine the capacity of their common zones and of the places where events may be held in the safest conditions, always respecting the maximum capacity consistent with the hygienic, protective and minimum interpersonal distancing measures. You should ask about these before travelling to Tenerife and check them on arrival. When planning to do recreational animation activities or group classes in a tourist accommodation establishment, you may find certain capacity limits and you will have to respect the interpersonal distance measures or, failing this, wear a face mask. Animation activities or group classes will preferably take place outdoors and activities will not include passing objects from person to person. Blankets and pillows in cabinets must be protected.

 You may also need to follow guidelines and recommendations for use in accordance with the established prevention and hygiene regulations if you decide to use sports fittings in tourist accommodation establishments, swimming pools, gyms, spas and similar facilities.

If you plan to contract a guided tour service, you should keep in mind that the maximum group size is now fifty-five (55), that measures will be taken to ensure the mandatory interpersonal distance and physical protection measures such as wearing face masks. These activities will be preferably booked by appointment. During the activity itself organisers must avoid transiting areas that are likely to suffer overcrowding. Likewise, no audio guides, brochures or similar material may be supplied.

Active and nature tourism activities are permitted as long as they are run by companies registered as approved active tourism providers. You must comply with the measures stipulated by the company to ensure proper interpersonal distancing during the activity and use of face mask is mandatory. Standards of cleaning and sanitization and the mandatory use of face masks shall be complied with in transport means.

The seats for cultural activities in cinemas, theatres, auditoriums etc. and similar outdoor venues will be preassigned and distributed by co-living groups (“bubbles”). The public must remain seated while maintaining the interpersonal safety distance at all times and use of face mask is mandatory

Visits to museums, exhibition centres and scheduled cultural activities are allowed provided that the available space enables proper interpersonal safety distancing between users; the use of face mask is mandatory

You may take part in sports or do physical exercise in the open air individually or in a group of up to thirty (30) people at any one time provided that you maintain physical distancing. Sporting activity can be carried out in groups of up to 25 people in indoor facilities and sports centres provided that the inter-personal safety distance is maintained whenever possible. This social distancing will be prioritised over other measures as long as occupancy of the spaces is limited to two-thirds of their normal capacity. The safety distance must be maintained during performance of sports activities. Users shall wear the mask when they access and exit the facility and while they walk along its common areas. The use of face masks is not mandatory while practising physical exercise if the nature of the sport activity is incompatible with its use as indicated by health authorities.

Recreational, leisure and relaxation activities, including sports that take place sporadically and in places other than dedicated sporting and exercise facilities and, at all events, those taking place in the open air or in temporary moveable facilities are permitted provided that the public remains seated. Otherwise, the public might be sitting or standing in sectors by groups of up to 15 people of the same social group or family bubble. In general, 75 percent of the usual capacity cannot exceed. The organisers must implement adequate measures to ensure a minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 metres and controlled entry to prevent overcrowding. If said interpersonal distance cannot be maintained, other suitable means of preventing contagion shall be implemented including physical protection regardless of the mandatory use of the face mask.

There may be access limitations and maximum capacities on our beaches and in other marine swimming areas to ensure that the minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 metres can be maintained. Further access and length-of-stay conditions and restrictions may be imposed at any time depending on how the public health emergency situation develops.

The capacity of each natural swimming pool will be set and controlled to ensure that the minimum interpersonal distance is maintained at all times.

 Non-contact, individual and two-person sports and physical exercise are allowed on beaches. Water sports (surfing, windsurf, sailing etc.) are permitted under the normal conditions established by each municipal district although rented equipment must be disinfected at the beginning and end of each session. Jet skis, pedal boats and other rented sporting or recreational items must be cleaned and disinfected before and after each use.

You will find that poolside and beach sun loungers and parasols will be separated from each other by two metres at the closest point of proximity and must be cleaned and disinfected after each use. You can use two sun loungers with your partner if they are separated at least by one and a half metres and at least two metres from the next lounger or group of loungers.

Freedom camping is strictly prohibited and dedicated camping grounds are limited to twenty (20) campers at any one time.

 As a result of the sanitary emergency, discotheques, dance halls and night clubs with and without live music performances are closed in the Canary Islands.

Further recommendations

 The use of tobacco inhalation devices, water pipes, pipes, shisha or similar devices is not allowed in leisure premises, hotels, restaurants and any other establishment open to the public.

 Recreational, leisure and entertainment boats with economic activity may exclusively open outdoor spaces to the public for seated consumption. In any case, the maximum capacity will be of 75%.

You must maintain the interpersonal safety distance between users from different social bubbles at all times if you go to places of religious worship and comply with the obligation to use a face mask. These places may not exceed 50 percent of their normal capacity and the maximum number of people allowed will be displayed in a prominent place.

Citizens are recommended to limit social encounters outside their stable social bubble.

It is recommended that each person defines his/her own stable social bubble and that their social encounters are held within this group with a maximum of 10 people.

Interpersonal safety distance:

Minimum interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 metres must be kept in public thoroughfare, open public spaces and in any closed space for public use or open to the public. Failing this, alternative measures of adequate physical hygiene protection and respiratory/hygiene/cough etiquette must be used irrespectively of the mandatory use of a face mask.

 The minimum interpersonal safety distance is not applicable to people from the same family bubble.

 It is recommended to avoid staying in crowded closed places and near other people.

You may be submitted to a temperature control and/or other kinds of preventive healthcare measures on arrival or departure, depending on whether your trip is to or from a foreign airport or maritime port or inter-island’s maritime port
